NEW COURSE! Reading Capital Volume 1
March 2026
A DISCOUNT CODE FOR SUBSTACK SUBSCRIBERS WILL BE SENT OUT IN MESSAGES.
Published September 14, 1867, Karl Marx’s Das Kapital remains one of the foundational texts of modern Marxist political economy, revolutionary theory, and sociology. It is a mammoth book, with the Penguin edition numbering 940 pages excluding the Appendix. Its size and density are most often the major deterrents for would-be readers, as it can be hard to digest alone. Yet, it is a must-read for any revolutionary, and I am so thrilled to finally offer a course on it.
The course will be capped at 20 people.
Logistics:
This is an 8-week course on Volume One of Karl Marx’s Capital beginning in March 2026. We will meet once a week at a designated time and day chosen by the class before we begin.
Each session will be devoted to one of the 8 parts of the book. There is little to no lecture component, as historical context should be acquired through previous course offerings (Modern Europe, Modern European Socialism, and Intro to Political Economy). However, these courses are not required prerequisites; they just help place the text in context. We will be using the Penguin edition, and it’s important that you have access to that specific edition so that our page references line up.
How to enroll:
To enroll in this course, you need to go to my Patreon page, navigate to “Shop” and purchase the post. The fee of $100 covers costs of setup (including Zoom), course preparation, advising, and time spent in and outside of the session. Once you purchase the post, you will be granted access to a Google folder (located below the post) that contains the syllabus, which includes links to the course Telegram channel and the Zoom meeting. All course meetings are recorded and uploaded to that folder, so if you need to miss a session, you can watch it on your own time.
I should note that those using iOS are charged $43 more by Patreon. If you have the means, consider enrolling outside of iOS to save yourself some money.
As we draw closer to March, I will send out a Google poll in the Telegram channel to vote on a time and day of the week.
